About Me

My name, Devin, means “poet” in Gaelic. While I am hardly Irish, and not necessarily a poet, I appreciate the sentiment. I have always aspired to write prose that feels like poetry.

I am a freelance environmental journalist with publications in Scientific American, Slate, the Boulder Reporting Lab, and Birding Magazine. I consider myself a print journalist first, but dabble in photojournalism when the opportunity presents itself.

When I am not writing or taking photos, I spend my time outside in the alpine summiting mountains, climbing rock faces, and pointing out various flora and fauna to my companions, much to their dismay. My favorite stories are the ones that take me on adventures with community members, scientists, and experts to explore our natural world and the ways we are impacting and interacting with our environment.
